I guess the railroad is pooched also - this storm may be the sleeper of the decade or 3. The rotary plow set went by here at noon, but they keep stopping to remove fallen trees and powerlines (there's even a PG&E rep on board). Above Gold Run, both tracks are closed and they are rolling back from Gold Run to pick up more crew at Colfax and to try to continue. It appears they closed both tracks - yesterday's California Zephyr stopped at Colfax and had to return to Oakland. It's SO rare for the RR to be closed and I think this is only the 2nd time the rotaries have been out since '93.

Here they are as they rolled past my at noon today. I heard them coming, but I barely got there (I ride the Grizzly down to the tracks from 200 feet elevation above) in time to snap this.

Those big snow blowers are awesome. I sure wish I was on the train to see all the snow.

A friend of mine took this back in '93. Note the guy hanging out of the cab on the left!

We could use one of those rotary blowers right about now. The town's big blower still hasn't made it up here so the road is closed. Rumor has it that there are cars stuck in the road further down.

They reopened I-80 today for cars only. Another storm is coming in tonight so it might close again. The wind is still howling and it's still snowing here. This snow is thick/heavy, and yesterday it was fluffy/light. That means that the avalanche danger should be high.

LOL, that would be a pretty good place to learn as the inevitable belly-dragging beginner landings would be on nice soft snow. :)

So... we had to bust the screen out of one of the living room windows. It turned to rain/snow today with winds gusting 40-50 mph and everything this stuff hit froze. I took a nap, woke up, the sliding glass door was frozen shut. Going through the window was the only way.

The big winds have drifted so much snow up onto our front deck that I gave up trying to keep any of it clear. The snow is probably 4-6 feet high out there, and with a new layer of ice, it won't be fun to clear.

They brought the big blower through around mid-day to open the street. Within a half hour or so the big winds drifted snow back onto the road so it closed again. Because of that, iur guy still hasn't been able to do any driveways. He is hoping for tomorrow but the forecast changed and we're supposed to get more snow, so who knows.

Great pictures.
Boreal says on their website that they have a base of up to 375" or 31'

Can you tunnel to the Grizzlies?

Sounds fun! :^o

You could always spread ash from the fireplace over the sun exposed snow in your yard.

The government was thinking of doing that on the iceburgs because of global cooling problem we had back in the 70's I believe.

Went sledding today, Snow is already tuning to sierra cement. Could of went to sterling no problem if my pos polaris sled didn't blow up. Due for its 5th engine now in 2000 miles.

Seen a few avalances, there is one about 1.5 miles up rattlesnake road that came down the front side of signal and wiped out some trees.
Also heard the UP rotary snow throw is stuck too, and there still digging to get to the spreader that is buried near cisco. I need to find out if its one that I built this year or last. Might have some repair work to do on it once they get it out.
