What the heck Angelo? You think you just slap this type of effort together? That's how people get hurt.

I will be making dry runs on Rubicon-like sections of trail next weekend. I need to prepare myself and my machine for the actual attempt.

Right now I'm still looking to achieve history sometime in the next three months.

As promised here is a picture of the ride.

I did my first shakedown cruise on Saturday. I rode from the cabin to where the dirt road behind Airport Flats Campground ends up. So I started down Wentworth Springs Rd. past the old start of the Rubicon and turned left onto the dirt road. I wanted to see the new bridge that was constructed across Gerle Creek. Got to the bridge ok and decided to continue on to Airport Flat.

That was a mistake. Apparently they decided to "pave" pretty much the entire road in riff raff. A couple of miles of that on a CT70 sucked.

But the CT70 did great and if nothing fell apart on that road, I doubt it will on the Rubicon. All I need to do now if fab up a plate to hold my 1 gal. Rotopax on the back. The CT70 is supposed to get 60mpg. A full tank and a 1 gal. back up should be good for 100 miles. I think I will wait for the first Fall rain so the dust wont be too bad to attempt a Rubicon and back run.

Stay tuned...

Angelo got me all worried about my mirrors so I have built up a second CT70 to take on the Rubicon.

It is green stickered, has a new head, no mirrors or turn signals, geared way low, and has a 1 gallon Rotopax on the rack.

I will do some short runs to make sure all is well and then as soon as we get some rain, I'm launching.

Had a malfunction on my first trial on the '77 CT70 on Sunday. It was running great, but then started coughing and backfiring if I gave it much more than idle throttle.

Think I may have messed up a valve.

No fun, but way to go finding it in testing instead of on the trail i like that alot!!

p.s. just a thought, but i would spend time tuning/adjusting the carb for a while before i tore it apart. hopefully one of the mixture screws got messed up.

Ok, just you all don't get your panties in a bunch the CT70 attempt of the Rubicon will happen this year.

I have modified the 77 CT70 with a stroke and bore kit and it's now a CT108. With te right street gearing it would probably hit 60MPH. I will gear it down from stock for the Rubicon run. I have made several technical runs, but plan on an all day ride (maybe Loon to Buck Island and back) over Labor Day Weekend.
