CVT Transmission in car

Postby Ken » Wed Dec 07, 2005 8:29 pm

You betcha. I was actually stunned tonight with my rental car. I picked it up at Hertz and it was a Nissan Murando. I've seen 'em before...never paid any attention.

Inside..there's a sticker...explaining "you are driving a revolutionary CVT transmission that requires fewer moving part and nearly infinite gear ratios.

Driving it, is strange...it makes a funny sound and it shifts obviously really smoothly.

Sure makes you wonder.....how often it has to be serviced and what kind of belt is it.

Towing? Yikes....

Wake Up!
Year Old!!
Seen it and it is steel belt in oil.
Problem when going 50MPH and you go to pass, It does not down shift.
VP at work states it lacks passing power. :)

There have been a few others with CVTs. Subaru Justy's from the early 90's or so had 'em ( a manual trans was also available). There were others but I've killed too many brain cells to recall that info.
Rincon that's dialed in.

Sorry...I've heard of the car, but like I said...I'd never buy one (CVT or No CVT) so I never paid attention to the car at all.

The only reason I even found out about it, was I got one for work. I didn't try to "pass" at 50+....so I don't know. But it was a fast car....it had major get up and go.

It clearly had multiple gears. The strange thing was...if you hopped on the gas and say hit 3K RPM....well....the car just stayed there at 3K....never moved. The car would just continue to accelerate. It was strange.

If you punch it after moving....it shifted down (a gear).
