400xt 2 seater

Postby Kodiak » Wed Sep 17, 2008 3:46 pm

so i am thinking about getting a 400xt two seater. the girlfriend loves to come atving but doesn't enjoy driving as much as riding. so yeah, will a 400 be able to carry two people i think with a bit of gear and us the total load will be approximately 275-300lbs. i love the rubicon and fordyce type of trails. also how well does that visco lock work on tough rocky trails??
thanks for the input

Again - personal preference, but if you're looking at the Can Am 400 I would seriously consider the Poo 500 two up. Power wise they are about the same, however the Poo seems to be built a little better for handling two people - IMHO. The AWD on the Poo works about 1000 times better than that visco lock on the Can Am - also IMHO.

Price wise, they are probably about the same.

If you're looking for new, Polaris has great financing until the end of the month and will be putting clearance pricing on the '08s any day to make room for the '09s.

I agree with above....

Then there is a WHOLE other issue.....The Fordyce and Rubicon, wouldn't be my choice of riding location with 2 riders. On either trail...Your ATV will ROLL...it's only a matter of time. Is your partner prepared to jump? Able to move HELP your balance and not hinder the driver.

I ride those trails regularly...and I personally wouldn't want someone else on the quad...it's work just to keep yourself on board and safe.

Just my opinion...

I ride AC TRV 650H1. Got 650 over 500 for most power. Polaris did not have 2up at time I purchased and can am visa lock scarred me. Never had any problems with AC. Longer wheel base will to be dis-advantage on large rock trails like rubicon. Easier to get high centered thats why I stay away. Longer wheel base makes for great ride over all, especially at high speeds, and walks over rough terrian real smoothly. 2up's run much heavier so manhandling is not an option. Rear rider raises center of gravity so be aware in off-camber situations. Most important, rear rider needs to ride with, not against you or it counter acts your motions. Only been riding my 2up for 2yrs but here's my 2 cents.

wow great thoughts guys thanks a ton for the input i was planning on buying used, but with all that info would it be better to go for the RZR. and can that handle the rubicon etc.??

i also hear ya about the visco lock, i'm not the biggest fan of not being able to decide when i want the front end open or locked.

RZR can...check other posts here....cause it needs some mods in order to do the Con on it.

Most couples I know that ride together are going to SXS vehicles for comfort and equipement hauling capabilities. I can't seem to get my wife on the back of my 2-up, but I bet she would be more willing to go in SXS.
