Signal Peak is Open(?)

Postby GrizzlyGuy » Sun Aug 19, 2007 7:34 pm

Here is an excerpt from the TNF fire restriction map that you can download from the bottom of this page:

If I read this right, I can ride down the Signal Peak Trail, as long as I turn around and ride back up it. I just can't drive into the Indian Springs staging area and park there, because doing so would involve driving on a trail.

Is it just me, or does this make no sense at all?
:?

P.S. - The Boonie Bouncers consider this to be a trail, but apparently the Forest Service considers it to be a road:

What is shown in black on that map is all part of the service road. On the West side it starts in the staging are off Carlisle Rd and goes up to the towers, then back down the other side to Fordyce Rd on the East side. All of the other trails off of Signal Peak are closed though

Are you saying that if I drove into the Indian Springs staging area, unloaded, and rode up the access road to Signal Peak... I'd be OK? I'm good with just that, I could shoot an entire ATV video just on that access road. :D

These pictures that Hemingray took at Indian Springs tend to suggest otherwise, but maybe they were just over-exuberant (er, wrong) when they said "Everything from the Indian Springs trailhead is closed" and hung their orange ribbons over the Signal Peak sign as well(?). I see they listed out all the routes *except* Signal Peak, so "Everything" may have been wrong:

After looking at that sign again it almost looks home made. Fordyce is spelled wrong and that ribbon is all jacked up. Thers is no mention of the Signal Peak trail but they went out of their way to mention everything else. Safest idea is to go over from the East side and then back, or call and get an answer from someone at the Big Bend or Nevada City Office

I believe the ribbon was put there to symbolize the red tape of our illustrious government and their knee jerk reactionism.

The other "sign" was probably printed rather quickly in a FS office to notify people the trail is closed.
