Anytime you come up this way let me know, lots of great riding. That is Mt Mclaughlin in So. Oregon. You chan see Shasta to the south but I did not take any pictrues of it.

I could be wrong i have been before. But the red stuff in the snow is iodine from the cloud seaters. It's the same way around here.

chadd can you explain what a cloud seater is? i saw some of this red snow near bowman lake 2 weeks ago and couldn't figure it out

I think he meant cloud SEEDER - i.e. a plane that drops crap into a rain cloud to get the party started (rain).
Rain droplets form around tiny dust particles, so dumping a bunch of crap into a moisture laden cloud will prompt rainfall.
Your science lesson for the day.

They do not seed the clouds up here that I know of, but I could be wrong. We do have a LOT of red cinders in areas that have that same color.

They use Cloud SEEDERS all over northern california. Cal water, Pge, Municipale water districts use them to maximize precip from every rain cloud. they are mostly land based on peaks and such. The red stuff is from iodide that is realesed into the air during storms.
