Re: GETTING STUCK ON TREASURE MTN
wow!! what an adventure!!
i'm glad it all ended well, do you think if you had burried your shovel like an anchor and winched to that, that you would have been able to get out? or was the snow just too soft and would you have just dragged the shovel to the atv??
also its amazing how stuck you were that even a snatch block wasn't able to move ya! wow.

Re: GETTING STUCK ON TREASURE MTN
Wow you were stuck.
To answer Angelo's question, if you burried a shovel in this case would have never worked. Ken and I have had good luck when getting stuck putting your winch line as high up in a tree as you can get it. That way when you start winching it pulls you up and out.
When riding with the tracks you have to be very carefull of creeks creeks or low areas that are covered up with snow. Alot of times there is a snow bridge underneath and because of that the snow can break through easily.
Another golden rule about riding in the snow is after a big snow fall. Most snowmoblers will wait at least 12 hours for the snow to settle. But it looks like in this picture it was after that large snow fall we had. Thats a tough one in soft snow.
Glad to see you were able to make it out and recover your atv too.

Never heard of that one? Hell most of the time we are sledding in the storm. And always try to get out there right after. If you wait too long the snow sets up and your left with sierra cement shit snow.ATV'er wrote: Another golden rule about riding in the snow is after a big snow fall. Re: GETTING STUCK ON TREASURE MTN
My winch, without snatch block would not reach a forward tree. When I tried to winch to left or right I just got dragged into the side of the hole and sunk deeper. There was zero traction in the hole. Even when we got it out we still had not hit solid snow in the bottom of the hole. I learned the 3 day lesson. Need two or more thawing and freezing sessions before heading out on deep powder.

Holy crap, that was incredible! I've ridden those roads dozens of times but never in the winter. You've got some serious cojones being 8 miles away from the trailhead, alone, in February, in the snow.
What a crack up that you're cranking Blondie's "Call Me" on the way home. Had you not been able to call in your buddies for help you might have ended up looking like Debra Harry. These days she looks like the walking dead.
In the first day videos, what the hell was that big square-looking tracked thing that wouldn't get out of your way? That was funny, you're honking, yelling, then you finally burn the guy and pass on the right. Did you fly a single-finger salute on your way by?

Re: GETTING STUCK ON TREASURE MTN
I had a Sat phone also. The reason I treked out at 3 pm was to make sure I got down to Nichols Mill Rd and then Hwy 89 in the daylight. Luckily my buddy Gary got hold of a snowmobile and met me on the trail. He had one hell of a time getting up Treasure Mtn Rd from Nichols Mill Rd and was worried he would get the short-tracked sled stuck also. I sure did give the road hog the 1-fingered salute.

Re: GETTING STUCK ON TREASURE MTN
Nichols Mill Road you say?
I'm glad you knew about that road. Since you were over the summit it would have been a hell of a walk back to Little Truckee Summit, and not much better to peel off down Rice Canyon Road. Good work on the single-finger salute!

Re: GETTING STUCK ON TREASURE MTN
My only good trail out was the snowmobile marked route and a set of week old tracks down to Nichols Mill Rd. Getting off of them cause my snowshoes to sink about a foot or more into the powder. I know the shortcut trails down to Nicols Mill and Old Truckee, but the powder was a bit too deep to chance going those routes. I had ran down to Rice Canyon and Hwy 89 the week before looking for a way across to Cottonwood Canyon and up to Bear Valley.
