Nice! That looks like the kind of place where you can really crank off some miles.

I wonder if you could ride around Mono Lake and all the way down to the Owens Valley? That could make for a fun multi-day trip.

There is a lot of riding in that area. Yes you can go to mono lake and beyond from there, eventually all the way to Bishop. The Mt. Patterson ride, elev ation 11,600 is a great ride. Pine grove, Del monte canyons, and just about everthing in between is worth seeing. There is also a small hot spring on the river. Masonic is worth checking out, and is also a great place to camp. We also stay at the Walker river resort, or camp at the elbow. Head east from the elbow to the south of Hawthorne and that opens up another great area to ride. The fall colors make it a great time to go.

Excellent!

Time for me to start studying the topo maps. I haven't ridden in that area, but I did use Mt. Patterson as one of my turnpoints when I did my 500 km Diamond Distance flight in my sailplane (Truckee --> Mt. Patterson --> Reno-Stead AP --> Truckee). It's kind of weird having that big ole mountain sitting out away from the Sierras, but at least it made navigation easy.

I've got all the forest service maps for the area. there nice to have, but if you just buy a benchmark nevada road and recreation atlas it works. along with a gps you'll be set. the thing about nevada is, if you see something intersting, there's usually a road or trail that will get you there. If anybody needs advice or info, just ask. i've run just about every trail in the area at least 3-4 times. i love it over there, it's worth the drive to me. we leave the house by 5, elk grove, and are usually riding by ten
