What a difference a week makes!
Started out to explore the 33 road (off Mosquito Ridge Road). Ran into this silliness:
Somehow I supposed it is perceived as a high use road. Oh well, it's boring anyway.
Peavine Creek
and the spring there:
Kind of a trashy road.
Makes you wonder why they came all the way out here to dump this here. Anyway, moved on up to the 43 road (to Robinson Flat) to see how the snow sitch is. I knew I could get to the 44 road anyway, but it turned out things were open after just a week!
Last weekend there was a plug of snow and downed trees. Everything is cleared up now and it's passable.
I decided to go on down Soda Springs Road to see if the usual snow block was there, where GrizzlyGuy and I found it in July. Along the way - super scenic views, the weather was fabulous. Here's Snow Mountain:
North Fork American Canyon - and beyond (Signal Peak/Red Mountain is visible in the center)
The Sierra Crest to the east:
Looking towards the back of Sugar Bowl (Mt's Lincoln and Disney) and Castle Peak.
And someone has cleared the snow and the trees etc.
Nice riding through the tall trees.
Another view of Snow Mountain:
Back to Robinson Flat and not wanting to do an out-and-back, I took the 44 road down Cavanah Ridge.
An expansive valley view - towards the Sutter Buttes and Mendocino NF beyond.
Looking in the other direction - the peaks above Tahoe.
Further down the ridge, there are a few flat areas with some tall trees:
Back to the 44 road and Last Chance Rd.(it's the trail in the middle - Going up!)
There is a burn that runs along the north side of the road - I think it was an escaped controlled burn from the other side last fall.
Back to the truck - and what a great day up there. It was in the 70's all over - nice.

Beautifil Pix as usual good sir, thanks for bringing us along for the ride! =D>
Re: What a difference a week makes!
Thanks guys. Mike, normally I would agree with you but the 33 road is b-o-r-i-n-g. It's not really a great loss. I can ride it in the fall to remind myself how lousy it is. The 43, 44 and Soda Springs roads are fabulous - maybe even more fabulous than the Fabulous 19 Road that I rave about.
When Soda Springs Rd. is open, you can ride from Mosquito Ridge Road all the way to Soda Springs - and there are tons of spurs to scenery. You can rack up a lot of miles in this area.
