Went down to Mammoth last week. I was going to ride for 3 day but had my brake down after 1 1/2 of riding. GREEEEE!!
Still had a great time and almost 130 miles -- not bad for 3 rides.
First ride was out of Smokey Bear Flat 60+ miles
Ride 2 was out of June Lake Junction 35miles
Last ride was Deer Sp to Glass Mtn. 40+

Silvertip,

I just want to chime in on this topic. I completely agree that Mammoth Lakes and the Inyo NF is a great riding area. I've been going there a lot the last couple of years. In both May and June so far this year. A great combination of topography and geology - mountains, forest, craters, lava domes, etc. Miles and miles of well marked trails and FS roads. They even have two tunnels under US 395 for bicycles, motorcycles, and ATVs - one near Mammoth Lakes and the other near the June Lakes junction.

The riding is more scenic than "technical". But lots of it. And, depending on your camping choices, you can ride right out of you campground. The people at the Mammoth Lakes/FS visitors center are very helpful and have very good OHV riding maps.

I hope others enjoy it.

Bill

camokids -- You can get a very good OHV map @ the Lee Vinging FS office just as you are coming into town on the left. I like the Crooked Meadows area to camp. Out 120 going to Benton. It is about 5 mi. off the pavement and the rd. is soft. You can do a day ride out to Glass Mtn. And also ride to the West on a very large road and short cut system. If this is your first time in that area? Also go the Sweetwater Mtn. off of 395 between Sonora Junction and Devils Gate. Has a few good pulls to get to the top of Mt Patterson 11367 ft. You can get a map for the area in Bridgeport or the Lee Vinging FS office.
Let me know if I can help you some more?

Here are some Pic of the Sweetwaters I took in 2009. Just to show you a little of the country. If anyone want to see more of them I will post up more of them. This is one of the most out standing areas I've riden in Calif.
