honda onwers then when it feels a slip all 4s star pawing?
Not for Honda owners.... I believe they have true 3 X 4 engagement. There's some vid's of Dusty's Honda showing three of four tires engaged the fourth doing nothing.

However, with the Polaris..... It's on demand and true 4 X 4 capability.

Mitch:

Now that I've had my 800 EFI for a couple months....

The AWD switch simply means that the quad will switch into 4wd when needed. This happens when the rear wheels slip 20% (1/5 of a rotation). I swear it's even smarter than that from the way it acts on rocks, because you can crawl up rocks without any wheel slip. It blows my mind how well it works.

The quad's biggest downside is the rear-wheel-only engine braking... but in two months I've learned how to deal with it pretty well. In most cases, you can use Low Range and let the EBS do its thing and crawl downhill. But on really loose, steep hills, as Ken has told me, put it in High and from my observations, it will disengage the clutch entirely and you just use the brake to modulate your speed downhill. My Grizzly definitely crawls down that stuff better, but that's the ONLY thing it does better than the Sportsman.

Personally, I think it's great..... It elliminates the use of another break lever. Actually.... I very rarely use my rear brake unless I want to stop quick. and......

like RobG said, the perferred method for going down hills is in high so your tires spin just enough that you don't slide.

It works KILLER in powder....and it's cold enough there....that it will rip on snow that's compacted.

The first snow of the year...is MANDATORY ride time.

I'd say roughly 55 mph is what you'll see out of a 500 EFI... give or take a few mph. My Grizzly, with big tires and a clutch kit will hit 63, yet those with stock ones claim they've seen 65+. I have yet to top out my 800 EFI... I've hit 60 on it easily and it is still pulling hard.

My old POS Honda Rincon was good for 48 mph. That was IT. That was one of my chief complaints. WTF is wrong with a 650cc machine that can go no faster than that??

lol.... I've got my carbed 700 going almost 60 on a slight down hill. Passed Dusty on his POS Honda like he was standing still. I still remember the look on his face...... Priceless.

Now he has a Polaris 800. He could probable do that to me now.... If he could ride. lol.....
