What is this on the wire??????

Postby GPER » Sun Nov 02, 2008 2:57 am

Had the Ranger out today and still had the shorting problem that kicks the power off. So I hot wire the fuel pump and got some riding in for my daughter. She wanted to drive her Mama around so after paying 46 bucks for the three of us we did get all of the morning in before we loaded up to go home.

After I got home I am GOING to find the problem and have found that the power wire that goes into the shifter is grounding out. I will need to find a diagram of the shifter before I take it apart. I also found that a plastic thing on the reverse indicator light on the back side of the dash has a burnt spot on it. I can't find out what the thing is and can I just cut it off????

It is the white plastic thing that is on the purple wire, any help or suggestions would be great. This is on a 1999 Ranger 6x6, thanks[/img]

I did some more looking on the Ranger today and there are two purple wires coming out of the reverse indicator light. One goes on down to the shifter then the one with the plastic thing, but at the end of the plastic thing the wire is gray. The gray wire goes to a switch that never worked then works it way out to the hubs on the front.

I did find the short that kept popping the power off

The switch in the shifter is toasted.[/img]
