05' Sportsman 800 problems.

Postby Ukau » Mon Nov 24, 2008 7:42 pm

So I went riding all day yesterday with no problems. Prior to loading up the quad I took about a 15 minute break. When I went to load it up, its started fine, idled rough and low at about 950-875RPM and would die out when throttle was given. I used the winch to get it back into the truck and drove home about 20 minutes away. I tried starting it to unload it, and it worked perfectly. I road it for about 10 minutes and the symptoms did not return. Also at no time did the check engine light come on.

Symptoms:

Rough Idle
Low Idle 950-875 RPM
Stalls Out with Throttle.

(Starts Fine)

It worked fine today also. I just dont want this happening again 25 miles into ride.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Couple of questions:

Does it have EFI?

Is the air filter clean?- I have had a rough idle due to very dirty air filter.

How much fuel was in the tank?- I have had low fuel and it would not do anything except idle very rough. Fixed it when I added fuel to it.

There are a few other possiblitys but its just a start

Sound like a dirty throttle body.
Are you running a K&N filter?

If you have EFI...use a Foam UNI filter...not K&N.

I do not know about just spraying in to there.(you know running in to motor?)
I would take the T-body and remove both clamps.
Turn it so you can see down in to it.
Clean out inside with Q-tips and try not to break the T-cable.
If you can set a bunch or rags under the T-body and then spray with the drippings falling to the rags.
Polaris EFI and K&N =

i don't know if you have this in america but we use REDEX which is a liquid that you add to the petrol which dissolves any rubbish in the fuel system and cleans it. it will make your quad run a little poorly the first few hours but it has massive benifits. i used some in my petrol and have noticed a massive improvment in the running.
