SP 800 oils resedue on motor??????

Postby Stumppuller » Fri Jan 30, 2009 7:16 am

Okay I'm officially worried, I have a 07 that has been really good, I work with it alot, but now I have noticed some oil resedue on the top of the head of the motor and on one of the nuts that bolts it together, not much, but enough if I wipe my finger I have some on it. The machine has used a bit of oil occasionally but I hear its normal for this machine.
It has not leaked down on the skid plate or shaft or exhaust so its very little but still, could I have a head gasket going?
Can someone help me out.
Thanks.

It has been my experience that head gaskets either go or they don't. I would take a look to make sure the head bolts are torqued down to spec, as well as any other bolts (exhaust manifold, intake, etc...)

Thanks for the reply, I will check that, are you saying you have heard of head gasckets going, would a cold climate make it happen easier. I've plowed in very cold weather, the bike usually warms up for 5min. and I take it slow.

er...I meant in general. Things like tires, brakes, etc...those things have a "wear factor." In my experience, head gaskets are either working or they're not.

I would say its the valve cover gasket NOT the head gasket. Just replace the valve cover gasket and I bet the leak goes away.

If the head gasket was blown you would have major engine issues.
