todays ride

Postby extreme atv rider » Sun Mar 08, 2009 3:06 pm

well the 800 is running good. now my buddies is having a problem. 2 hours into ride his starts running like crap spit sputter turns it off lets it sit for 30 40 min and starts up runs fine for another two hours same thing. now i'm pretty sure something is getting hot and acting up. tore front end off exposed all the wires and harness didn't see anything obvious so what could be causing this?

any and all help thanks

Check to make sure the battery cables are tight. I've had that problem before and the efi wasn't getting enough power.

that was the first thing i checked they are tight. it's not throwing any codes to help find the cause were going to strip all plastic tomorrow and clean every plug and wire to see if were just missing something a little coat of mud is hiding something i'm sure. it's probably something simple like a wire shorting or dirty plug i hope. it only acts up after riding for awhile then let it sit for awhile and ta da it works fine again same all day. i put hand on ecm under the bars and it wasn't any warmer then outside temp.

stripped entire quad of plastic cleaned every thing up almost looks right off show room floor. took all plugs apart clean reconnected. no broke burned striped wires any where and yet it's still running good for a while then like crap. i'm at a lost now cause without plastic there's no where for heat to get trapped i thought. has anyone had this problem or no what else i can try?

btw pretty scary riding these 800's without fenders one slip and your a goner.
