how many hours till you change the drive belt on the polaris's

is the same as the oil changes once a year or every hundred hours.

I think ken had about 2000 hours on his belt. I would just say carry a spare just in case.

Nope - allegedly the newer ones never need changing - unless your name is Ken Hower and you beat the ever livin shit out of your quad, then you not only replace the belt, but you have someone replace motor mounts, weld the frame and various other repairs. :finger:

I replaced my belt at ~2000 miles and put one of the newer style ones on. They are redesigned to run cooler - therefore longer life.

I HIGHLY advise buying a spare though, and carry it with you. That's one thing that will stop you dead and there's really no substitute for it. Cheap insurance if you ask me.

You should try the new 800 belt Scott, it's a direct replacement for the older style 700 belts.

As long as your motor isn't out of alignment (yeah, you've had this issue too) it is a lifetime warranty on the belt.

They are pricey though - I think about $90 for the twin belt. The 500 belt is about half that though.

The biggest wearer of belts is when you don't use low gear when you should. If you shift properly, you should get years out of them. Being in high when your doing slow rock crawling or pulling stuff is murder on them.

Hardly any....I think it's a T25 star (that's for the 4 screws on the footwell. 7/16 to hold the nuts on the bottom. Then for all the screws holding the cover. And then a flat head for the hose clamps on the breather tube.

You don't need to do remove the primary with the drill just to change it.

My one and only belt break out of 2500 miles on my yellow quad, 1700 miles or so on my ex-wife's old quad, 1700 miles on my quad and similar miles on Lori's current quad is because the motor mount broke.

But it's still not a bad idea to bring one. I have an extra one now....walking 2-3 miles in the snow to get back to the truck, wasn't fun.

walking in 99dagree weather sucked in a creek bed

i walked 6 miles back. and i also learnded that you don't hear all the Creepy sounds at the creek when your on a quad
knowing that where i ride is filled with rattle snakes when it is hot
i was a bit edgy i been bit once and i never want to do that again.

I may need a clutch alignment on mine; I've been blowing belts about every 1200 miles. I carry a spare and have learned to change it in the field... but it takes a while to get all the chunks out of the ducting and stuff. Blew my last one in Moab in 2007. Must not have liked running 50+ mph for a half hour.

Belt longetity is the one thing keeping me from seriously considering the new 850 XP.

Check your motor mount too. Ken and I both broke our after 2000 miles. I had mine realigned and it works perfect with no belt ware.
