if it was me i would go with a sportsman 800 that is a year or two older
and save your self about 4 grand.

compare a 99 modle 500 like what you ride to a

2008---2007 800 you will think you just went from
a VW Jetta to a Ferrai.

well the only reason i went with the 500 was because there was that one for sale near me and also cause it's good for long rides so i can pack more booze and less petrol  but i want another toy with more power for them days when power is more important then MPG :D

i get a mixture of quads into fix but i have never had a sportsman 800 or 850 yet, had a rene in and nearly killed myself

I have a 500 and an 800, and the 500 has more than enough power and speed to get you into plenty of trouble. The 500 can stay up with the 800 just fine on most rides. Maybe not in a drag race or up a long grade in the mountains, but if your a speed freak, get a CanAm. Contrary to what many claim, there is such thing as too much power (especially rock crawling). Both will go faster than the critical top speed on most mountain trails. I too would wait on the XP. They do their best designing and engineering them on a computer, but the first few years always illuminates some unforseen flaws. My buddy got one of the first RZRs, and it's been a nightmare, needing all kinds of upgrades and modifications. You own the most popular ATV on the planet. Enjoy what you got, it is the best!

That's true....

however there is a fairly substantial difference between the Sportsman and XP....so that has to be considered.

i am defo keeping the 500 it has made a huge impression on me and i would not give it up for love nor money. my polaris dealer near me has a 550 and 850 xp in and once they come back in i am gona pop up and have a go on the 850 and see if he still has that 800 in to have a compare to, but after having a read of the HL forum if i do go for the 850 i might give it a few months as the polaris dealer gives his demo model out for tests on farms and i'll see how well that holds up.

Thanks for the web site addy as well roon 101 had a look on there and has given me a few things to think about.

man that would be cool to be able to mess with it before you buy it on a farm or anywhere for that matter better then a 4 minute ride.

I have put around 50mi on my buddies new 850xp with power steering and it is all that and a bag of chips. Polaris has produced one hell of a machine period.

I have been looking for someone to purchase a well built Grizzly 700 so I can talk the old lady into a new 850.

not really there is a catch, if you break it you pay for it. the only way it would be covered is if it was road legal and insured on my insurance.

Sorry...I should have quoted. I was referring to him giving up his quad to get an XP.
