K & N Filter Does Fine

Postby Wildhorse800 » Mon Sep 21, 2009 7:53 am

I know some are not fans of these.

So I cleaned mine for the first time since new. Got over 700 miles and @ 60 hrs.

After the dust ride, I figured I better check it all out. I run my factory pre cleaner screen over it.

It was FILTHY! So totally cleaned it (and the wifes).

Absolutely NO oil, dirt or grime in the intake hose. Clean like new!

I know some people over-oil these. This leads to the engine sucking the oil out of the filter and into the intake. The wifes Scrambler had one in it....and had about 1/8 cup of filter oil in the air box.It actually had to be drained out. I think this qualifies for over doing it!

K&N guarantees these, even for powersports, to NOT void warranties.

I ,for one, will continue to use these. I've had good luck for over 10 years with 0 problems.

I haven't had any issues either, the key is like you said - easy on the oil and clean them regularly.

And BTW, the engine "sucks" just as hard no matter what filter is on it. (especially for Ken)

The main key to the K&N filters, is to let them COMPLETELY dry (2 days) before you spray them with oil. They may feel dry after 12 hours, but they are not. The oil then incapsulates the remaining water particles and when you use them, the intake sucks in the heavyer water with the oil around it into your manifold causing a red oil film. I have two per quad, for when I might need to change them on a trip.

I keep my stocker in case, but haven't had to use it yet.
