Is the 800 EFI worth it over the 700EFI?
Just wondering as were talking 1200 bucks more here for the 800, for what a little more CC, and a fake dual exhaust, what I mean is it only splits right on the muffler so performance wise the Dual exhaust isn't doing much. Is there that much difference in power between the 2. I like the sound of the 800 that's forsure but is it worth that kind of money. Here in Canada people are paying 11.000.00 +tax. That's alot of cash for a ATV.
I'm still leaning towards the Grizzly but can't keep that Sportsman out of my mind even though my buddy with the 700 twin Polaris is going Grizzly. He says stay away but my heart says go for it. My only other concern is, GAS MILEAGE, I hear its a PIG, and I mean PIG, one guy on the atv connection told me he was getting 40-60 miles on a tank and its broken in, said he rides hard so it burns more, more, I'd need 10 gallons of gas for that to do the trips I do. 100+ miles sometimes. Someone else told me normal riding they get 70 miles, but the 05 700 EFI gets around 90-100 miles, so for my kind of riding the better gas mileage the better.
I don't mind carrying 5 gallons but no more.
Can anyone give me some encouraging NEWS, should I go with the rock tough grizzly or will the Polaris give me a new look on ATV's.

Never been on a 700 EFI however, rode an 800 EFI last weekend.... Blows the doors off my 02' 700.
Like Corvette VS Pinto...... follow me? lol....

The EFI was.....Spectacular. I can barely put into words how floored I was over it's performance. It's mainly the throttle response. It's unreal. It's so smooth, the power is like butter as you increase the throttle...no hesitation, no lagging...just power.
Pinto to Corvette sums it up. A carb ATV is mediocre compared to EFI. And it did get better mileage in our un-official measurement. 700 Carb = 2.25 gallons vs. 800 EFI = 2.0 gallons.
I can't imagine that you'd be disappointed by 700 EFI vs. 800 EFI. As for the Dual exhaust. I'm not so sure about it being "fake" or not making a differences. The ONLY reason it goes to "1" is logistics. There's no room to get to the other side, without passing through. I believe the only thing is does is just PASS through. The pressure coming out of the 2, felt Equal to me. Of course the only way to prove it, would be to take apart or ask a mechanic. The 800 CLEARLY has 2 seperate pipes coming out from the engine....they merge into a larger single pipe (which slows the gasses down)...I imagine there is a diverter to split the air...1/2 goes left....1/2 goes right. Only a dyno could tell for sure....but I would suspect the current dual design is more powerful than the single exhuast design and only SLIGHTLY less powerful than a full dual exhaust. The difference between single and dual would be greater than the difference between dual and pure dual...if you get what I mean.
I can't compare it to a Grizzly. I can tell you blows the doors off my 02 700 Twin. I guarantee the 800 will out 'anything', anything out there. I would suspect the 700 EFI would slay just about anything out there too...just not quite as impressively.
I would surmise the 700 would get better mileage than the 800 for obvious reasons....so given your needs...a 700 EFI would make more sense.
All I can say...is before you buy....TRY ONE..somehow.
No choke
No power loss at altitude
Better mileage
More power
Dead ass cold....it just fires up and purrs. I hate my quad.

I have a Grizzly and love it. Howver, I'm planning to get a 700 EFI as a second machine (which will likely become my primary machine). I don't want the 800 due to cost and fuel economy situations. I have the same concerns as you, and I've heard from enough people who say that the 700 EFI gets nearly the same mileage as the 500 HO that I think it'll do me fine.

This isn't gonna help your decision any I'm sure... but I rode an 800 EFI at the dealer the other day and could tell a huge difference in power between it the 700 EFI.
I also read on several other forums that people are seeing 18+ mpg out of them if they ride 'em "normally" and don't go WOT a lot. That's as good as or better than my Grizzly.

Totally agree....there's a big ROAR difference between the 700 and 800. If you're a bigger guy...200+, you'll appreciate the power.

Back to the point about the exhaust.... I feel "if" it didn't make a difference why would Polaris design it with two pipes? Otherwise it would have been more cost effective to have one pipe.... like most twin motorcycles currently on the market. The ONLY reason it goes to "1" is logistics. There's no room to get to the other side, without passing through. I believe the only thing is does is just PASS through. The pressure coming out of the 2, felt Equal to me.

The dealer explained it to me that they added the second muffler because the second one wasn't enough. BUT, only 22% of the exhaust comes out of the second one... so he says. Interesting.
My thinking is that once the aftermarket gets on it, they'll design a single muffler and header system that will outflow the stock system, and sound better to boot.

That I believe. Especially with 2 pipes....making them noise friendly, yet high flow will be easier than with 1.

I think the design will have to be quite similar to the current configuration. Unless you design it going through a roll cage..... A... Ken, you might want to consider buying one....
