Hole in CV boot

Postby MrBill » Mon Aug 15, 2005 7:52 am

Vapor Lock..WTF.. on the bypass we took I must have found a small stick. I have a small hole in the left rear boot. Is this going to be easy to change? should I go with a Polaris boot kit or should I get one of those better after market boots?
How will I get the end of the CV off to get the new boot on? The boot clamps will be no problem.

Pretty easy job just pull the rear driveline out pull the outer boot off and the outer cv joint comes off. Then change the inner boot. The outer cv joint will come apart you might need to hammer it off the drive line.

Thanks Chadd
You said "you might need to hammer it off the drive line"
Why grease lock on a splined shaft?

Once you have the driveline off the bike then you have to remove the outer cv joint. There is a ring on the drive line that locks into the outer cv joint. You might need to hammer the cv off the driveline.

I hope that makes sense.
