06 500 EFI

Postby rangertom » Tue Feb 28, 2006 3:49 pm

My father-in-law's sportsman has officially had it's first failure.

Anyone here heard of "the stalling problem" with these new machines?

He's to be taking the unit into the dealer for their "fixing," but I'd sure like to know what it is before they spend an assload of time trying to find it.

Chadd...I bet this is not a new "issue," is it?

Thanks,

Tom

Sounds like ETC adjustment. Very easy to adjust.

Certainly gives me hope...on atvconnection.com there's a long thread of several folks with this model that have the same problem. Judging by how this issue seemed to get worse and worse, I'm thinking the ETC could be the problem.

At any rate, the ATV should have reached the dealer today. I'll be calling them to inquire about it's disposition. I've got a great rapor w/the mechanics, though I don't have a great deal of confidence in their EFI knowledge.

I'll keep yall posted.

If you saw this thread, you've also probably seen that I posted to it a couple times...almost looks like a hurry up and wait on Polaris to figure out the problem.

Too bad though, it's an awesome machine when it's not stalling.

Thanks Ken.

UPDATE!!! Bill had it right, it was the ETC/TPS...whatever, it was the damned cable adjustment for the throttle. The retaining nut wasn't tight, allowing the adjuster part to back off from vibration. This explains it's steady worsening. Nice and simple...and the dealership didn't charge for their 5 minute fix either.

Great ending! Thank goodness! I was really afraid it was what some are experiencing who've posted to the atvconnection website.

The father-in-law's happy as a clam...once again!

Thanks again for all the input!
