Aftermarket handlebars for Polaris?

Postby BABS » Tue Mar 28, 2006 6:16 am

Wondering if anyone has purchased aftermarket handlebars that fit the Polaris 700 sportsman... or any sportsman for that fact. I'm looking for the wide straight type by Renthal, MSR, FMF or something comparable. The problem I notice is that the factory bars attach to the triple tree inside the front console. The aftermarket bars would have to have a pretty high rise, and the cross bar would have to clear the top of the console.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

I have thought about it but have also heard about people getting hurt by the cross bar when flying over the handle bars. The after market bars are not as strong as the polaris bars (thick wall steel tubing)

Trust me when I say handlebars with a very high riser could be hazardous to your health. Keep the stock bars and hope your quad never stops so suddenly you start to rocket through the air...... :)

I'm not really sure...... You'd have to ask Chadd. Although I think it was distance. :)

OT: right...right...Right There, his foot contacts the bar at the dismount!!

Found some bars

Postby BABS » Thu Mar 30, 2006 6:19 am

For those who might be interested, I found a great fitting handle bar by Pro Taper and installed them last night. The cross bar clears the instrument panel WITHOUT the pad on it...which you don't really need anyways. If you did fly over the handlebars, you'd hit the instrument panel before the bar.
I did have to use the Dremel with the sand paper disk on it to extend the height of the current handle bar openings on the plastic, but it was only about a half inch and you'd never notice. It only took two minutes.
If you quad's handlebars feel rather small, and your elbows are in your sides all the time on those tight turns, I'd recommend these. These are wider and straighter that the factory bars and make a big difference in those tight corners. Pro Taper SE 7/8" aluminum - $65.00. If anyone is interested I can get you the model number and include a picture of how they look on my ride.

Here are the pics of the Pro Taper bars on my Polaris and a shot of the sticker with all the info on it. Let me know if you can't view them. First attempt at creating an album through yahoo. I think I got it right though.
