hey guys, great site.
I think I have decided on buying bighorns for my '07 brute 650i, I just cant decide between 26" or 27".

I will probably run the rubicon trail 2-3 times tops per year, mostly trail ride, Stonyford, Clear Lake, Carnigie, Forest Hill, and other California foot hill type areas.

what are the pro's and cons of going up to a 27" tire VS a 26'

I would go with the 25's since they run big....they will be lighter and your quad will sit lower, that = more stability... and larger tires will rob power. also I would order them with new wheels so you can get offset wheels wider is better. my 2cents.

Bigger is not always better.

NO on the 26's...NO on the 27's and ges what you save money with the 25's :)

i started with the 25" Bighorns on my 650i, and after getting hung up in a "interesting" place a time or two, i switched to the 27s. the 27s on stock wheels come close to rubbing, but do fit. i like the 27s for the nasty trails and would get them again. drop your pressures to 2.5 to 3 psi and try that. rides great at low speed, but gets a little sloppy at higher speed.

both my 25s and 27s run close to correct size with a few miles on them and 3-5 psi in 'em.

i say get the 27s for hardcore trails. they have worse high speed manners, but who cares if you are in low range most of the time. i can still run 60 mph if i want, but it feels a little loose (i have my sway bar disconnected also, tho...)

a heavy tire is not all bad. some of the competitive rock crawlers put a couple hundred pounds of lead shot in each tire to "keep 'em planted". the heavy tire will lower the center of gravity of the machine, too. i wish i'd have bought the 27s first, but i was thinking i'd loose power and break stuff. now i know that the 650i has a power surplus even with heavy tires, and a little common sense will prevent broken parts.

another option is to put the narrower (front) 27x9-12 on all four corners instead of putting the wider 27x12-12 on the rear.

I'm happy with my 26"....I figured....off all the crazy stuff I've been over...my previous 26" 589's, which are smaller with air than my Bighorns...and I still was Ok.

The only thing I haven't done with my Bighorns...is rocks. I've already posted that on another thread....

I won't know how I feel about them, until Summer.....but trails and snow...they work great.
