Patch or Plug?

Postby oldtrucks » Sat Oct 22, 2005 2:31 pm

Looks like last trip I picked up a nail in my right rear. I've was in Di$neyland all week and came home today to find her flat. I'd really like to put on some new radials, but I was in Di$neyland all week. So, should I plug or just put in a patch? In all my miles I've never had a flat on a quad. With the low pressure and crawling over rocks I'm wondering if the patch would eventually pull fom the tire and leak. It's a small nail, looks like about an 8, so the holes not going to be that large.

What's it like riding your quad through Frontier land? lol....

Plug it..... Otherwise, it's a real pain in the ass. BTW - those plugs are indestructable..... I used for plugs once and continued to ride.

Chadd (I think) had 16 plugs in a tire? It still worked..... lol.

Hard enough walking through, no way you could walk, the place was crowded as I've ever seen it. I'll never go there again during the fall school break.

I'll plug it, thanks Miyagi!

I grew up just miles from the place..... Hated it then (to many people) I just can't imagine what it's like now. Last time I was there..... (I think) was in 1974? lol....

I have 3 daughters so I get my fill. We try and go every year in early October. We usually beat the crowds but this year we went when the oldest had a break with the rest of the world. I think being the 50th Anniversary has a lot more people showing up also. If you haven't been since 74 you would be shocked at the changes that have been made.

I love Disneyland still....Probably been there with kids or alone...20 times.

Miren worked at Disneyland as a Tour Guide. So I hear the same stories....every time.

Going to Disneyworld again next month....

As for tires....patches never work. The inside of the tire is different than passengers tires and it won't vulcanize properly.

Plug.

If it's on the sideway....new tire.

Life's a bitch....

What's the trail repair for a sidewall? After what I went through breaking this one down it's doubtful I'd be able to break the bead on the trail and be able to get a large temporary patch inside.

I need to get me one of those mini spares that all the new cars come with

Jack has a small bead breaker..... or.... once you get the tire off it's possible to use another quads tire (by running over the tire thats flat) to break the bead. or.... if you have (off road) road service with AAA you can call them :)

I'm telling you though..... Stock up on plugs. If you have enough of them you could probably build your own tire.....lol.

I think there's another thread on this.....

But your trail choices are...

PLUGS...sometimes lots of 'em.

Or...you can break the bead with a bead breaker...or drive another ATV on to the tire. And put a TUBE inside it if it's really bad.

Plugs, plugs and more plugs. I don't care where the hole is, plug it. If it still leaks, then slime it. Then if it still leaks, buy a tire. Tried it all before.

Buy a cheap plug kit and about ten extra packs of plugs for when you've almost got it and then accidentally push the whole wad inside. :x
Rincon that's dialed in.

Lizard is right...

I will however....recommend the plugs from Safety Seal and their plugger...it's nice. And the plugs have slime in them....so they're juicey fat!
