Duramax mileage??

Postby DAVE » Tue Apr 03, 2007 5:00 am

Just wondering about your mileage. not towing, just running around hwy, city, real mileage not what the computer is saying. I am looking into getting a 4x diesel van.I think mileage would be less on a van, pushin a cube threw the air and all.

Need room for hauling more dogs, the biz is picking up

My new 2007 gets between 17.5 and 18.5 just about every tank...that's combined city/hwy. I have yet to take it on a long...relatively flat (no sierras) without towing a trailer.

Going to Tonopah with the trailer and quads...I got 15.

I've got almost 70K miles on my 2003 dmax/allison. My commute is from Placerville to El Dorado Hills, and lately I've been trying to keep it 65-70MPH and I've been seeing 18MPG (averaged going up and down). When I used to drive 75MPH I was seeing 17MPG. Mine's a 5 speed, and that difference of 5-10MPH is enough to keep it down around 2000RPM. The 6 speeds should do better with highway milage. On the flat, I see 20MPG at freeway speeds.

I've seen as high as 22MPG on sustained lower speed highway driving on flat terrain (~60-65MPH) and as low as 12MPG towing a wheeler at 75MPH. On a trip back to wyoming, I got 18MPG on I-80 with the cruise set at 80MPH on the flats across Nevada.

I didn't know they were making vans with a dmax in them. Interesting! If you aren't towing, the difference in cost probably isn't worth it, in my opinion. $8000 will buy a lot of gas.

No Scotte:
The van I was bringing up was a 3.0ltr Dodge Van. I think the 3.0 is from Germany.
But, Dave want's towing up to 11K lbs. The above rig is not set-up for that kind of pull power.

Looks like you can get the dmax in a van but they use a differant trany then the allison,,, somethig about it will not fit when you have 4 wheel drive.. to long or something.

I didn't know GM was putting the Duramax in a van. There was a aftermarket company makeing them with 4 wheel drive runing around in Moab last easter. They even took it up potato salad hill.

My 05' crew cab gets ~17 in normal bay area traffic. It is true if you keep it under ~65 mph or 2000 rpm it will be better. Towing a 18' trailer with 1 quad in the truck and a Jeep and a quad on the trailer I get ~ 10 to 12 mpg from the bay area to Truckee. Thats all hand calculated, but the computer is fairly consistant at adding about 1 mpg to whatever I am getting. Keep in mind that your getting that kind of mileage with tons of power and no worries going over the hills, AC on and everything. :D

Yep, from everything I've heard and read they got all the bugs out of the 6.0.

This should be a good year for GM. Even though the changes to Ford and Dodge diesels aren't really all that much more extensive, from a pure customer acceptance/marketing standpoint I think there's a general impression that they are all new engines since the displacement has changed. Guess we'll see...

I wonder if Toyota is ever going to get their 3/4 ton Hino-based diesel or whatever it is out. Although if it's priced anything like the new Tundra, forget it...
