Broadway Photo, A&M Photo World, Royal Camera - SCAMMERS

Postby FishaHallic » Fri Jan 25, 2008 10:12 am

In my research to find the lowest price on my Garmin 60CSX gps unit this place popped up as the one with the lowest price. The overall reviews for this company were good so I took a chance and ordered my gps from them. I put my order in thru their website and paid with my cc and what do you know, this morning at 8:00am on the nose they call to verify my address which is strange since I had to put it in 2 times on their site to place my order. Anyways after they verified my address they proceeded to put on a hard sale on extra software, recharchable batteries (at $30.00 no less) carriers and what not. I told the guy I just want what I paid for in the box and he tried to tell me that the unit will not work with out the extra software?

I don't know if he is telling the truth or not but I do know that I order stuff from the internet all the time and this is the first time anyone has ever called me and tried to pressure me into purchasing more stuff. It did not help that the guy had a NewYork accent that I could hardly understand or that I got that feeling you get when your buying a new car and they try to sell you undercoating, special wax, extended warranties and what not.

As of now I am giving Broadway Photo a big  , now if I get my order in a timely fashion I could change my position to being neutral but still I don't like being pressured even after I tell them NO.

The bahstud.

That's buloney, it will work fine without having to buy any extra software. Garmin gives you MapSource for free to upload/download your waypoints, tracks, etc. Not that you even need that, but it is included for free.

You might want to do like me and buy a set of crappy topo maps called Garmin TOPO U.S. 2008, but you don't need to. Emphasis on crappy, IMHO. I can give you my Tahoe/Plumas GPS trail map for free. Here is the Garmin info on that pay-extra software he might have been trying to sell you:

http://www8.garmin.com/cartography/mapSource/topous.jsp

And if you look over here, you'll see my post where I show you what the Garmin topos look like and what my trail map looks like:

If and when I get the unit I will get with you Griz because I am sure I will have a few questions. I am not a computer geek by any means and I am sure this thing will have me scratching my head. I just hope it does one thing, if I leave from point A and go to point B will I be able to back track my route with the standard software it comes with?

Yes you will, and that is one of the best darned features on all these GPS units. The ole 'bread crumb trail'. It should just be automatically on. I use it all the time. I ride along through the forest, forget the turns I made to get to wherever I am, so I am now technically "lost". So rather than getting myself even more lost by wandering around, I turn around and follow the bread crumb trail on my GPS back to somewhere I know. :)

No worries if you get stuck on using the gadget, just let me know and I'll give you a hand.

Hey Dave, this Broadway guy has me worried. When you get yours, open up the box and make sure there is a Garmin CD inside. That's the free software that Garmin gives you. Who knows, maybe these guys are yanking that disk out and then trying to sell it back to you. :x

That's what I am thinking too, cause I know it said it should come with some software. If they took anything out of the box I will raise hell.

GG told me about the 60csx and it did come with the software and it was easy to learn. I'm no geek either heck i can't even walk and chew gum at the same time :) but that is one sweet gps. I had the 530 rhino and the stupid radio keeps coming on for no reason GG had problems with his to stupid battery but the 60csx has been awesome and my hats off to GG for turning me on to that unit :)
I bought the 12v charger for the quad and it works great recharges the batteries when riding so I will never run out of power unless I run out of gas.

My review of Broadway Photo is that they SUCK! I check my email for an order confirmation and now all of a sudden they are on back order. When the guy called me trying to sell me more stuff he never mentioned that and I even asked him if it was shipping that day which according to the website it says same day shipping.

I just find it strange they can call me less than 12hrs after I put the order in to try to sell me more stuff but now that it is on back order they don't call me but say in an email I must call them to process the order. I think they are about to lose a customer.

Ya know Dave, I'm not sure how good your deal was thru Broadway, but Walmart has them for $305 and it says they're in stock.

I wish I could find the website, but a while back I ordered something from the same people and got the same treatment.

They will leave it on backorder forever. They now want you to cancel. the site I found had a list of companies that do this same routine. It's called bait and switch.

Hundreds of people have complained about this company but no one officially has done anything. I sent a complaint to Amazon because that is where I first heard of them.

Amazon.com has them for $299.99 but they are out of stock until 1/28. They also list "Featured Merchants" who carry them and their prices:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/ ... dition=new

NexTag has a similar listing here:

http://www.nextag.com/Garmin-GPSMAP-60C ... rices-html

GPSCity bundles it with a 1 GB microSD card (handy if you want to load maps on it) for $339.95 and it is in stock:

http://www.gpscity.com/item-garmin-gpsm ... csx1gb.htm

I usually buy all my GPS stuff from them, just because they've never done me wrong and their prices are usually in the same ballpark as the low price sellers.

I bought mine at

http://www.beachcamera.com/shop/home.aspx

But I just checked, and they carry all the Magellan handhelds...but really only the Garmin in car products.

Broadway Photo to my knowledge has always had a bad reputation. They open boxes and remove key components like chargers and then sell them as extras. On the surface it looks like a great deal until you see all the standard equipment they don't include.
