Iron Mountain / Mormon Immigrant

Postby Sasquatch » Tue Feb 01, 2011 6:25 pm

I frequently ride the logging and fire roads in this area which is located off Hwy50 and Sly Park Road in Pollock Pines. A left turn once you pass Sly Park / Jenkinson Lake will get you out in the right area.

I went on a ride a while ago with 4 other machines. We started out around 4200 ft. elevation and rode up as high as 6800'. Some trails go even higher in elevation, but it was time (for us) to turn around at that point! :!:

The first part of the ride was mostly high speed dirt roads combined with some beautiful sceanic trails.

Eventually as we climbed in elevation we started running into some snow... and it got deeper... and deeper... and...

Where the heck are you taking us!!! My buddies inquired?

I assured them that if anyone got stuck that I "should" be able to pull them out

Well, a WISER man probably woulda had us all turn around at that point, but no one ever accused me of being a wiser man!

Anyhow, out of the 5 ATV's on this ride, mine was the ONLY one to not get stuck! And yes, mine was also the one to pull out the other 4 quads! (several times)

I kept joking all day long about how maybe they should have saved for a Grizzly - lol... my bike definetly earned its keep on this ride.

Here's a few pics, although I really didnt take that many because I was too busy hooking my tow strap to other peoples machines for most of the ride  Keep in mind these trails are much different and more easily accessible in the summer and fall seasons.

Awesome pix man! Wondering if you have the coord's of the area you rode per chance? I live in Cameron Park - used to ride the Swansboro area till they dumbed it down so much. Always lookin for somewhere close to motor around...

WoW, you guys made it up to 6800'. That's only 300' lower than my snowed-in Grizzly den. Good work!

Thanks guy's for all the compliments!

Mr. Green, Im pretty sure that was a "Great Oak"... its hard to tell by the pic, but it looks like it came out of the ground about 100' up the steep hill to the right of the pic and slid down until it ended up blocking the road. Someone (before us) had trimmed a few branches to open up a hole big enough for a stock Toyota 4x4 to drive under... had it not been for the road, the tree would have kept sliding down the steep hill to the left of the pic!

The Modfather, I do have a gps (Garmin GPS60CSx) but I have only used it twice now and I really havent figured out how to work it yet! I could do you one better and join you for a ride up in that area if you like... maybe you could show me how to work my gps! lol... I am actually only 2 or 3 exits east of you so we are practically neighbors

GrizzlyGuy, I am supprised we made it as far as we did! The only thing that saved us is the snow is not "fresh" so it had developed a good layer of crust that we were able to keep on top of for the most part... once you break through that crust your screwed  Next year I hope to be able to invest in a set of tracks for my Grizzly to get me even farther

You Know if you buy tracks you will have to ride alone because the rest of us will be home pouting.

nice light bar... is it the 10" "E" Series LED Light Bar?

id love to get one. Have you used it much? Was it worth it? What Pattern of lights did you get?

they look like they work well and
"Two Wire Installation 2.89 Amps 39 watts 3600 Lumens"
Thats alot of light for the amps / watts.

Yes sir, good eye!

It is the Rigid Industries E series 10" L.E.D. light bar in "FLOOD" pattern. They are also available in "SPOT" pattern and a combination of both. The light is very well made (nearly indestructable - have you seen the video where they shoot one with several guns and it still works?)

Unfortunatly I have not done any camping since I installed it, which is when I would normally make night runs... I have used it at night just around my property. It is AMAZINGLY BRIGHT! In fact, I can hardly tell if my stock halogen high-beams are even on once I turn on the LED!

I also ran across these (Chinese made?) clones while browsing Ebay. They are half the price of R.I., but who knows what quality or how durable they are...
